Tips For Vacant Property Care
Your home can be vacant for various reasons, including going on vacation, a recent renovation, transitioning between tenants, and more. Typically, you can have your neighbors monitor the property for any suspicious activity, but you can also do a few things to ensure your home is taken care of.
Let’s look at a few tips for vacant property care below.
Make It Appear Occupied
While this might seem like a no-brainer, having people help make your home appear occupied can help. Schedule someone to handle the lawn and landscaping, or have someone take the trash out and collect your newspaper and mail so it doesn’t accumulate. If you have exterior lighting, consider installing timers so they turn on at night.
Security Cameras/Ring Doorbells
Keeping an eye on your property will give you peace of mind while the property is vacant. Not only do security cameras and ring doorbells allow you to see what’s going on, but they also add another level of security to the home that could deter people from breaking into the property or causing any damage if they see them.
Keep Temperature Comfortable
Ensure your home is set at a comfortable temperature while it’s vacant. If the home is too cold, it could cause pipes to burst, and if it’s too hot, it could cause mold to grow. Consider installing a Nest or similar app to monitor the temperature at all times.
Be In Contact With Neighbors
Even if your neighbors aren’t handling any tasks for you while the property is vacant, make sure to exchange phone numbers with them in case of an emergency. Let them know how long the property will be vacant so they can keep an eye out on your behalf.
